21 Days
of Prayer & Fasting
Our 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting takes place September 8-28. We come together as a community to pray first and ask God to do what only He can do. Fasting enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God. It prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives.
Pray
ADORATION
CONFESSION
THANKSGIVING
SUPPLICATION
As we enter into 21 days of prayer and fasting it is important to feel comfortable entering moments of prayer and intimacy with the Lord. If you are unfamiliar with having a regular prayer rhythm, are looking for a sense of direction in your times of prayer, or are looking to bring new life into your time alone with God, this sheet is for you. Below is a framework that can guide your time of prayer over the next 21 days and beyond.
Adoration: Begin your time of prayer by giving praise to the Lord. Our God is worthy of praise in every moment of the day. Stepping first into a time of adoration humbles us and positions our hearts to look upon the Lord as He looks upon us, with deep love.
Confession: After adoration, then bring yourself into a moment of confession. Confession of sin is a key act in the lives of all believers. We all sin and fall short of the glory of God, and God is faithful to forgive our sins as we confess them. Empty yourself of the wait of your sin and confess them to the Lord, both seen and unseen sin.
Thanksgiving: After you have adored the Lord and confessed your sins to Him, give thanks for the wonderful things that He has blessed you with. All good things come from the Lord, and to Him all praise should be given. Gratitude does a great work in our hearts, so give thanks to the Lord.
Supplication: Finally, close your time of prayer by praying for the needs of yourself and others in your life. The Lord cares for the burdens of your heart and is glad to carry them with you.
We’re fasting together as a church because we believe God is preparing to move in powerful ways in and through our community. Fasting helps us set aside distractions and fix our hearts fully on Jesus, so we can hear His voice more clearly and join Him in what He’s doing.
Below is a list of different fasts that you are invited to participate in over the course of our 21 days of prayer and fasting. These options are available for you to choose from based on your own needs and discernment.
COMPLETE FAST: In a complete fast, all solid foods are abstained from. For this fast you will consume only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option as well.
PARTIAL FAST: This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.
SELECTIVE FAST: After you have adored the Lord and confessed your sins to Him, give thanks for the wonderful things that He has blessed you with. All good things come from the Lord, and to Him all praise should be given. Gratitude does a great work in our hearts, so give thanks to the Lord.
SOUL FAST: This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus on certain areas of your life that are out of balance.
For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
Fasting
As we prepare for our church-wide fast, we encourage all participants to prioritize their health and well-being. Fasting can be a powerful spiritual discipline, but it’s important to approach it safely and wisely.
If you have any medical conditions, take prescription medications, or are pregnant or nursing, please consult with a medical professional before beginning your fast. Even those in good health should consider speaking with a doctor, especially if attempting a fast longer than a day or involving significant dietary changes.
Stay safe, stay prayerful, and stay healthy.
